Why Maritime English?

As it stands there are no recognised international or European standards for Maritime English. According to recent IMO statistics 80% of accidents taking place at sea are caused by human error, with half due to poor communication.

MarTEL has established a set of standards by transfer of innovation from existing English language standards and maritime English model courses such as IMO SMCP. MarTEL aims to provide standards equivalent to those held by TOEFL and IELTS specific to the maritime industry.
